#015: Educate, Entertain, and Build an Audience Before You Need It

How do you approach content creation? Is it about sales, or is there a bigger picture?

On the latest episode of the Podjunction Podcast, Jason Greenwood shared his unique philosophy: “Don’t sell. Educate and entertain.”

Jason began posting daily on LinkedIn years ago—not to sell, but to create value. He focused on sharing his knowledge, insights, and experiences in the eCommerce space. His posts weren’t sales pitches. They were about building trust, engaging the community, and providing consistent, high-quality content.

Here’s what he said:

“When someone thinks of B2B eCommerce, I want my name to naturally pop into their head—not because I sold to them, but because I consistently showed up with value.”

This approach allowed Jason to grow an audience of over 33,000 followers on LinkedIn. His content became a magnet for business - not through hard selling, but by establishing authority and trust.

One of the key lessons from our conversation was this: Build an audience before you need it. The longer you create genuine, value-driven content without asking for anything in return, the stronger your foundation will be when the time comes to monetize.

Jason also shared a valuable insight: people can sense when your content is a thinly veiled sales pitch. It hits differently when your intent is clear—to educate, entertain, and improve your industry.

I found this conversation so inspiring because it’s a reminder that authenticity and trust leave a lasting impact.

What’s your approach to content creation? Do you focus on delivering value, or do you mix in direct selling?
